IRC Gateway

On a testing basis, to see if it’s useful to anyone, I’ve enabled an IRC gateway. This allows you to use your XMPP client to connect to an IRC channel as if it were a native multi-user conference.

You should be able to join IRC channels on any network by joining a group chat or MUC, in the format of the following example:

#chinwag%irc.freenode.org@irc.chinwag.im

Substitute any IRC server name or channel in there as appropriate to your needs. As an alternative, and because it’s also an Australian service, I’ve enabled a second gateway directly to the oz.org IRC network. You can join any channel there with the much simpler form:

#chinwag@ozorg.chinwag.im

This brings you the option to set up a persistent connection to any IRC channel you might want via any client, mobile or desktop, like Conversations or Swift.

If you have questions, ask in the ChinWag lobby channel, or message mike@chinwag.im for help.
